Artist in Residence at Hyannis Country Garden

A Week of Creativity: My Artist-in-Residency at Hyannis Country Garden🌿

Last week I had the pleasure of being the artist in residence at Hyannis Country Garden. It was such a fun experience. This time of year, I spend a lot of time at home in my studio working, which don’t get me wrong, I love, but having the opportunity to spend a week at the garden center exploring and painting all the greenery, was such a welcomed change of scenery. I’ve always been inspired by flowers and plants, so having an excuse to paint them all week was just icing on the cake. I spent the week exploring new color palettes and finding new forms of inspiration.

Immersed in Inspiration: My Week at the Garden Center

I would start my day by walking around the greenhouse and taking photos of the flowers and plants in the morning light. I started a fun ritual of finding a couple of flowers or plants each day and then mixing up colors on my palette to try and get the closest color match. It was such a fun and challenging exercise!

Creative Process: From Garden to Sketchbook

Prior to last week I had never painted orchids before. Their shapes always seemed a little odd and challenging to me. But After a few days of staring at colorful orchids every morning, I decided to give it a try. I explored different ways to paint them, from more detail, to a looser brush style. I really enjoyed painting them in the looser style, and ended up painting several pages of orchids in that style.

The Art That Bloomed: My Residency Collection

I’m planning to release a small collection of original paintings and prints inspired by what I painted at the end of this month. If you can’t wait till then, one of my personal favorite collections I’ve ever painted is my spring morning collection. A collection of bright ethereal botanicals.
