This listing is for a custom shell lady. The term "shell lady" is a general umbrella term I use to describe all of our shell pieces. It includes shell moms and daughters or sons, shell mom and little kids, shell sisters, shell families, shell dad and daughter, shell grandmother and granddaughter ,shell woman, shell friends, lots of different shell people included in that term, see photos for some examples. They can be a mix of ages genders etc. Classic shell lady styles are also available for customs. Classic refers to the original fashion style shell ladies I create. I can most definitely send more pictures of those if that's what you're interested in.
Ordering and Process:
For custom shell pieces, once orders are placed, within 48 hrs you will receive an email from me to discuss your vision.
I usually ask for reference photos of the people that are in the piece so I can get a feel of their hair color, ages, heights, look etc. If you have a photo of a specific beach you like, that can also be used as inspiration for the background. Clothing colors can also be customized. Feel free to reach out with any questions you have about customizations. I've done many many variations, many more than pictured here. So if theres one that you've seen that is not pictured here, and you liked, just let me know. Once the Painting is done, I will email you a picture and see if you wish to make any adjustments or changes. Before glueing the shells, I will send you a picture of the piece with shell placements to ensure you like the color and sizes of the shells in your piece. After your confirmation I will glue the shells. Once the shells have been glued, they cannot be changed. I use a very strong glue to ensure they hold up over time. The glue takes 24hrs to cure. Once it is cured, the piece is then varnished to protect against moisture and fading. Once the varnish is dry, I will photograph it with different frame options and email you pictures to select from. You can also choose to add in a gift note, if giving the piece as a gift. Once the frame has been chosen, your piece is ready to be shipped or picked up!
All pieces can be shipped, or picked up locally. I am based in Cotuit if you want to do local pickup. If you would like to pickup at the Art Coddage in Mashpee commons, just put that in the notes section in the local pickup option. About this piece:
- 5x7 shell piece painted to specifications. Generally all of the shell pieces are 5x7 because we find this works best with the shell sizes. If you wish to have a piece larger, email us at hello@alr-designs.com and we can discuss those options.
- This price includes a frame, either a 5x7 frame or 8x10 frame matted to 5x7.
- All shell paintings are sealed with an archival varnish to protect against light and moisture, as well as bring out the true natural colors of the shells.
- All the shells in these pieces are real Cape Cod scallop shells. They are all picked by us from local beaches, then meticulously cleaned and dried before using.
- If your piece is shipped, we meticulously wrap and pad each piece to ensure its safe arrival.
All orders placed within this time period will be ready by May 6th to ensure Mother's Day arrival. Should you need yours prior, send me an email to confirm availability.
